Pay Range: $25.00 – $27.50 + $1.50 shift differential

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  This is a working lead position.  The position is responsible for overseeing the operations of 2nd shift, as well as working as a Machinist.  Lead responsibilities include locking up the facility at the end of shift, reporting safety incidences, reporting quality concerns, reporting material shortages, reporting schedule deviations, and being the point person for coworkers to help make decisions regarding day-to-day obstacles.  Machinist responsibilities include operating CNC and Manual equipment to fabricate, cut, drill, and bend parts for production.  The role also requires the running of manual drill presses and equipment to assemble hydraulic cylinders.  This position works under the direction of the Production Supervisor or other manufacturing leaders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Report any safety or quality incidences or concerns for the shift.
  • Report if anyone on the shift deviated from the production schedule and why.
  • Report any material shortages that are going to cause hardships with regards to maintaining the production schedule.
  • Point of contact for the shift to help resolve obstacles that occur during operations.
  • Secure the facility at the end of the shift by locking it and setting the alarm.
  • Able to operate CNC machinery, including a Press Brake, CNC Mill, CNC Lathe, etc.
  • Ability to take parts and build MasterCAM programs.
  • Ability to select proper CNC programs and run them.
  • Load and operate a CNC Saw.
  • Crosstrain to operator a plasma cutting table.
  • Able to read prints, including ensure accurate hole location, size, and type.
  • Perform full manual drill press operation, to include setup, such as single or multiple-spindle drill presses to drill, ream, countersink, spot face or tap holes in metal or non-metal work piece according to specifications.
  • Lift and carry work pieces manually or with a hoist or other mechanical lifting device.
  • Observe machine operation and verify conformance of drilled work piece to specifications using fixed gauges, calipers and micrometers.
  • Change worn cutting tools using wrenches.
  • Operate Drill Sharpener.
  • Cut, drill, and punch parts utilizing various saws and other cutting machinery.
  • Assemble and test hydraulic cylinders from manufactured and supplied components.
  • Rebuild and test of returned cylinders for remanufactured supply.
  • Fluid fill, assemble and test hydraulic power units to specified scope and settings.
  • Fabricate or modify metal components for use in cylinders and weld fabrications.
  • Proper use of measurement tools & equipment for setup, manufacture, and verification of dimensional and pressure product specifications.
  • Set up and operate bench machinery required to perform part fabrication and assembly operations for cylinders.
  • Assembly of pneumatic and hydraulic products.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Actively participate in cross training and continuous improvement assignments. 
  • Work cooperatively with coworkers including training and knowledge sharing. 
  • Learn new skills, techniques and equipment operation as assigned.
  • Collaborate with material handling personnel to perform incoming/outgoing work logistics and workflow organization.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area conditions.
  • Receive direction from production supervisor or other designated leader.
  • May work overtime as production needs require.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Perform work in a safe manner, complete all required safety inspections and adhere to safety rules and guidelines including safely operate crane and/or forklift if trained and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) software and machinery used for computer-aided manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of how to operate grinders, lathes and milling machines.
  • Math skills to take precise measurements and make calculations.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective manufacturing plans based on specifications.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management and co-workers.
  • Must be detail oriented with attention to accuracy.
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision. 

Desired:  Associate’s degree or certification in machinist/CNC equipment or a minimum of five (5) years experience in as a CNC Machinist in a manufacturing environment specializing in metal fabrication or other related industrial product. Ability to read, write, and speak English language and be understood.  Prior Forklift and/or Crane Operator experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.  Physical activity includes standing, reaching, grasping, bending, reaching above shoulders, and lifting up to 50 pounds.  If work demands require lifting in excess of 50 pounds, the use of a mechanical device or initiation of a two-person lift is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Perform activities in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area.  May be subject to changes in temperature and exposure to above normal noise levels, wet floors, electrical equipment, and chemicals.  Will be exposed to uncontrolled environmental conditions during driving.  Normally acceptable manufacturing environment with no abnormal hazards or risks other than those listed herein.
